Head study revised




I've done some anatomical adjustments to the forehead, nose and mouth. I also dug into the material setting because I didn't like how the SSS effect was coming out. I gained a better understand of the how the thickness and fog settings work together allowing me to get light to come through the ears as expected. And I got the render-time down to about 3mins a frame at full HD.

Head study final


Here is the final head textured and rendered in 3ds max with Vray. I'll get started on recording the Vray skin tutorial once I finish the realtime counter part to this.

Head study update 3



I'm using a higher res model for this round of screen shots. I've done some more work on the diffuse texture which I'm calling done for now. I have also created the specular map still need to work on the transparency map to get a better blend between the ears and head and to let a little more light through in the nose/mouth area.






Head strudy update 2



I've finished off the zbrush sculpting for now unless I get feedback saying I have some glaring errors or tips to improve the skin detail. I've started work on the texture maps and V-Ray shader, I've made a base for the diffuse map which I plan to add more blemishes and detail. I have also created translucency and refract maps which need more work. I'm working on most of the maps at the same time so I can see the affect of the different changes I make individually. I plan on creating a reflect map to control the specular highlights. I may create tutorials for map creation in addition to the shade tutorial this will be used for.

Head strudy

I received some feedback saying I need to work on realism and my anatomical detail so I've taking the head from my generic super head model and using it as a head study. I also plan to poly paint the head to create a photo real texture then use everything in an upcoming V-ray skin tutorial.

Robotech Invid Trooper update

I spent some time creating and playing with different brushes to make etchings and carved detail. I'll do the actual detailing tomorrow this was just to come up with working alphas and different methods to apply them.
