Green Lantern Game Mesh

Here's the final presentation image for the Green Lantern game mesh.

Green Lantern Desktop revised

Time to call this guy done. I went with the subdued eyes and added a pattern to the black area of the suit.

Robotech Invid Trooper 2

Here's an update on the zbrushing. I looked up a bunch of hard surface videos and forum post but found just diving in and using a few basic techniques is getting the effect I want. Also I found the Dam standard brush to be very useful and this guys work was very inspiring. Reference

Robotech Invid Trooper

I decided to so something a bit different for my next project. I'm going to make a next gen (current gen) game model of an Invid trooper from the cartoon Robotech. The main form will be based off the original design but the style will need to be upgraded for a high def game model. Detailing style I'm going with will be revealed during the Zbrush process. I've created the base mesh in 3ds max there are some gaps because I plan to mirror some objects and reuse a few. Here are some of the few reference images I found. Invid Trooper

Captain America Wallpaper

I've decided to change my wallpaper after over a year of my toad staring at me.

Captain America Final

The final render of the Captain America game model.

Overview
This began from a generic male superhero Zbrush model I created in a previous project. I started by adjusting the body proportions to created the physique I thought Captain America should have then moved on to loosely model the face after actor Mark Valley. Once those changes were done I move on to exploring costume materials. I knew I didn't want to alter the traditional costume but I did want to explorer what the suit might be made of in the real world. I played with carbon fiber, chain mail and various small plate patterns but ended up going with a small scale pattern compared to the large scale pattern various colic artist have used. I went with leather for the rest of the costume with a looser leather around the abdomen for easier movement and comfort when crouching and so on. Once sculpting was done I created a flat color layout in Photoshop to check color placement. I used AO and normal maps created in Topogun to add more detail to the texture. Once happy with that I replaced the flat colors with textures created from photos and did some minor topology tweaks. Once the model was finalized and the diffuse maps created I then switched from rendering in 3ds max to rendering in the Marmoset toolbag for rendering. Once the model was viewable in the toolbag I began working on creating specular maps which maps looked correctly in the engine. After some texture tweaks I related the pose some for the final renders, I'm not not much of a rigger so I didn't fully pose the model.

Captain America Final?

I worked out the issues I was having taking the accessories into the tool bag and did a quick stand for Cap. The final model came in at 12,700 tris, before making the final presentation image I was thinking of toning down the spec map but that is about it. I very pleased with how this has turned out

Captain America W.I.P10

I figured out the Marmoset Toolbag realtime game engine enough that I was able to set up my maps to get these screen grabs. I'm using a diffuse, spec(colored) and normal map. Need to sort out some uvw mapping issues with the subtools hopefully I can work that out and finished off Cap tomorrow. I have to say I'm blown away with what you can get with this engine.

Captain America W.I.P9

Here's the facial textures done with photo instead of being painted in Photoshop. I prefer this to the painted version so I'm going do some more on the belt and shield. After the textures are done I think I'll do the rendering in the Marmoset Toolbag.

Captain America W.I.P8

I've done some touch up to the texture notably I've painted the skin regions. I'm doing to creat an create another version with photo reference used to create the face textures. also I've added some edge loops to separate the gloves and boots from the body. after working out the face texture I'll do more work on the belt and shield.

Captain America W.I.P7

An update on the texturing. I still have to go in and swap out the flat colors for colored textures.

Captain America W.I.P6

Here's the low poly mesh for Captain America. Next is taking the belt, shield and head wings through Zbrush they'll be on a separate texture map. Topogun was used to transfer the hi res detail to the low poly mesh.
